Summer League Teams Announced for 2019/20

The 2nd ever Summer League is due to start this weekend and the teams have been announced.

Following the draft at the weekend, team managers have been working away behind the scenes making trades and swapping players trying to produce their perfect squads.

The Rotherham Ducks made the first major moves in free agency managing to acquire Steelers A team player James Hague. It will be interesting to see how Haguey gets on with the pressure of a big money move from Steelers Orange.

The most surprising move of the draft was the decision by South Leeds Rams manager Richard Parker, who decided to trade himself away from Leeds preferring to don the yellow and red Full Monty jersey.

Most teams were very active in the draft. In fact all but one team made changes to there roster. The only team who was happy with his team from the outset was Matt Williams who chose not to entertain any trades whatsoever. It will be interesting to see how this approach pays off in a couple of months time.

Here are the squads for the upcoming league :

The Summer League format has been slightly altered for the 2019/20 season

Games will be made up of 3 periods of 15minutes. All games will be running clock and in the event of a draw after 45 minutes a 5min 3v3 overtime will be played. Sudden death will then apply in overtime and if scores are still level then each team will have 3 penalty shots.

If scores are still level after overtime and 3 penalty shots then the penalty shootout will go into sudden death. (Sudden death penalty takers cannot be the players who took the original 3 penalties.)

Win 3 points and a loss 0 points. If teams are level on points then Goal Difference followed by head to head results will apply to determine final league placings.

At the end of the league season the top 4 teams will make the playoffs. 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd will play in semi finals followed by the final to determine the 2nd Summer League Winner.

The fixtures have already been scheduled and the countdown has begun to the first fixtures on July 14th

Steelers A take on the Jackals

The Steelers A team takes on the Nottingham Jackals on Sunday 30/6, 10am faceoff at Southglade Leisure Centre, Nottingham.

Under 5s

Our junior section is going from strength to strength and we have a waiting list of players at each age group. With this in mind the Club is looking at splitting its U7 section into two – U5 and 5-7year olds.

It is felt that by splitting the section into two it will encourage greater player development as training and drills will be targeted more specifically to age groups.

The U5 will be a fun session encouraging participation and teaching the basic skills such as how to hold a stick and how to dribble, pass and shoot.

Sessions will involve a lot of small games and activities and will encourage the players to have as much contact with the ball as possible.

This will thus allow the 5-7 year olds to be taught the more complex principles of tactics and positional sense in preparation for playing in competitive fixtures in the U7 league and Nationals.

In order to split the section into 2 we are looking for some rink dividers in order to separate the two age groups and create a safe environment for both sections.

Dividers are £150 each and we are looking for 10 sponsors. We currently have 4 sponsors on board so if anybody is interested in helping the Club out please contact us via email at sheffieldsteelersbhc@gmail.com
